Nyepi (Day of Silence) – Celebrated in Bali, this Hindu festival marks the Balinese New Year with a full day of silence, fasting, and meditation. Even the airport shuts down!
Rambu Solo – A unique funeral ceremony by the Toraja people in Sulawesi, meant to send the spirits of the deceased to the afterlife. It involves elaborate rituals and buffalo sacrifices.
Bau Nyale Fishing Festival – Held in Lombok, this festival is based on the legend of Princess Mandalika, who is believed to reincarnate as sea worms that appear once a year.
Jember Fashion Carnival – A dazzling street parade in Jember featuring extravagant costumes inspired by Indonesian culture.
Waisak (Vesak Day) – A Buddhist festival celebrating the birth, enlightenment, and passing of Buddha, observed at Borobudur Temple.
Pasola – A thrilling horseback battle in Sumba, where riders throw spears at each other in a ritual meant to ensure a good harvest.
Baliem Valley Festival – A tribal festival in Papua showcasing traditional war games, dances, and ceremonies.
